"Since its inception at Tiger Kloof in 2000, Round Square has grown immensely and has come to be a way of life. This is as a result of its principles being made part of the school’s Code of Conduct. In order to remind the learners of their commitment to Round Square, the Code of Conduct is signed annually by both new and old learners." Claire Top blueclarified@gmail.com

Round Square is an international consortium of secondary schools, founded by Kurt Hahn in Gordonstoun, Scotland. Hahn believed in educating young people for life in the fullest sense. The common goal would therefore be to develop every student into a whole person through academic, physical, cultural and spiritual experiences. There are now more than 40 Round Square schools, including England, Scotland, Switzerland, Germany, Oman, India, Kenya, Botswana, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States of America. Tiger Kloof and a number of other South African secondary schools form part of Round Square in Southern Africa.

Round Square schools support the growth of the whole person and its philosophy is structured around six pillars, shortened as

“IDEALS”:   I – International Understanding, D – Democracy, E – Environmental Awareness, A – Adventure, L – Leadership and S – Service.

A select group of students from these secondary schools annually attend a five day international conference held at a member school. Regional conferences also take place annually in each member country at a member school. During the conference the previous years' activities are reported on and evaluated. This is also a time to plan new projects and discussions are entered into regarding the theme of the conference.
